Online seminar on enhancing gender equality for women from Cyprus, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan

NICOSIA, 26-Mar-2021 — /EPR EDUCATION NEWS/ — Young women from Cyprus, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan came together in the online seminar “Building healthy relationships and enhancing gender equality” to discuss gender norms and explore tangible implications of human, gender, and health rights to women’s lives. “The whole journey [of the workshops] made my journey seem less lonely – having others with the same visions and aspirations – makes our work less lonely and it inspires me to do more”, a participant notably mentioned on her experience. The seminar was addressed to women aged 18-25 from Cyprus, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan, and was divided in two sessions with a series of online, regular meetings between December 2020 and March 2021.

Organised on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona Process by the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) and the heads of the ALF networks of Cyprus, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan, the seminar had the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus. “The integration of the gender dimension in the foreign policy of Cyprus and especially in the Eastern Mediterranean region is a great priority for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus”, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, in his opening remarks to the seminar, which contributed to strengthening relations between the countries involved through the empowerment of young women of the Eastern Mediterranean.

The seminar was coordinated by the Heads of the Anna Lindh Foundation Cyprus Network, which consists of the NGO Support Centre and Rooftop Theatre Group, and implemented by the Cyprus Family Planning Association and the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies and their experienced trainers. The selection of participants was made through an open call, where the number of applications exceeded all expectations, with a final selection of 40 women from the countries involved. Through the use of non-formal education methodologies and interactive tools, the participating women became informed about decisions on their reproductive rights, gender stereotypes and building healthy relationships based on equality and respect and had the opportunity to engage in discussions addressing gender inequalities, assertive communication and body positivity in their societies; as one participant pointed out, “acknowledging our human rights in a deeper way in order to realize when we are harassed and to learn more things about consent is very important for our lives”. Participants also had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Samir Anouti, Regional Adviser for Youth & HIV/AIDS of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) about the programmes offered by UNFPA in the Arab region to support women’s health and rights.

Women who participated in the seminar were eager to continue working together and advocate for women’s rights and finding more opportunities to share their voices. “[We want to take this further] to promote programs like this amazing program in order to empower women…to promote more documentaries or educational movies for women’s achievements and women’s fights…In order to make womanhood stronger and make each woman love and admire each other as it should”, remarked one of the participants.

Code A Wish Corp Hosts “AI 101” Summer Virtual Series for Teens amid Pandemic

Rockville, MD, 2020-Jul-30 — /EPR EDUCATION NEWS/ — “Code A Wish Corp” is a Maryland 501(c)3 non-profit that is run by teens and for teens. The club was started by six high schoolers that come from Montgomery, Howard, and Fairfax County in the Greater Washington DC area in the summer of 2019. They shared the same vision that public schools nationwide have an educational gap on teaching the latest technology such as AI, especially to those that are under privileged. The founder of the non-profit Faith Cheung, a senior from Richard Montgomery High School first started a school chapter of “Girls who Code” and realized the need for technology education is unmet by the public school curriculum. After teaching coding at local libraries and even foster homes in Taiwan, she founded the non-profit at the end of the summer of 2019. A team of six like-minded high school students swiftly was formed and the idea of running a tech conference called “the Future Summit” began. With months of extensive planning and coordination, the tech conference went live on November 16th, 2019 at the Hilton in Gaithersburg, MD. The “Future Summit” proved to be a huge success. More than 200 teens from the East Coast were in attendance to hear prominent entrepreneurs and computer scientists give cutting edge speeches on machine learning, voice technology AI and the fourth industrial revolution.

To continue the outreach to even more teens amid the pandemic in 2020, the group has kicked off a new virtual summer series called “AI 101”. The learning gap in the tech field is evident when we asked such basic questions regarding AI in our AI Virtual interactive webinars. Unfortunately, not many could actually answer. The organization aims to fill a huge gap to the school system in hope to provide much needed education to teens so that they can be better equipped with foundational knowledge in AI and other emerging technology.

On July 3rd, 2020, “Code A Wish” hosted their first summer 2020 AI 101 webinar where over a hundred students enthusiastically participated. The first webinar was also published on youtube for those that could not join the live session: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcLELI2aroo&t=1s

Since then, a weekly live session has been running and hundreds of students have signed up to join the interactive webinars. Topics so far generated interest from nearly 300 elementary and middle schoolers. The topics have also been carefully chosen to reflect the latest affairs. For example, the second episode was dedicated to the use of AI in Covid-19 research. The team is striving for reaching even more students this summer and providing an easy to follow virtual platform to engage teens. The next virtual webinar will be hosted on Friday July 31st, 2020 at 5 pm Eastern Standard Time. To register, please use the following link: cutt.ly/AI101

Edulabs Learning Solutions Ltd., a leading Thai-based innovator of 21st Century electronic teaching systems (www.edulabsglobal.com), has received overwhelmingly positive daily responses and a higher-than-anticipated demand for its “must attend” Webinar series. The Webinar www.edulabsglobal.com/webinar) cover CRUCIAL considerations that buyers of tablets for educational institutions MUST understand before buying. The Webinars became immediately over-subscribed at launch, and so Edulabs Global has decided to re-launch the Webinar series with new times and dates in order to accommodate the increased interest and demand for registered seats.

Gregory Pommerenk, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Edulabs Learning Solutions, Ltd., explains, “There is no doubt that the world-wide demand and excitement for Tablet computers and Smartphones in education is growing stronger and stronger each and every day, and has fueled this increased interest in Edulabs’ Webinar series. With this also comes the need for knowledge and information that will assist the educational communities around the world to make sure that the money they are about to collectively spend is invested wisely, effectively and accurately.”

The digital learning revolution

Schools around the world are starting to proactively adopt mobile learning programs and initiatives, establish or upgrade their broadband infrastructures and also replace traditional textbooks with digital textbooks at an unprecedented rate. Top online learning institutions such as www.learning.com and www.epals.com have created eLearning material which has revolutionized the global education industry.

It is estimated by respected research organizations that in the K-12 (Primary and Secondary) educational sector alone, there will be a need for in excess of 200 million Tablet computers and over 400 million Smartphones within the next 3-5 years. This is not including the huge need and demand in developing countries and underdeveloped areas of countries such as China, India and Brazil, which affects hundreds of millions of school-aged children and teens.

Explosion in educational demand for eLearning solutions.

In today’s interconnected and inter-dependent globalized world, the global community at large has finally awoken to the fact that having billions of uneducated and unskilled people, especially youth, affects the entire world, and is subsequently striving more proactively than ever to improve the state of education amongst youths. Edulabs Global feels that all of these additional areas are poised to soon explode in terms of demand. The countries of Africa, China, India, Brazil and many ASEAN countries have combined populations in excess of 3 billion people, of which hundreds of millions of youth desperately need much improved and affordable educational solutions.

Subsequently, more digital educational content and applications are becoming available at affordable prices and more and more verifiable studies are proving the value of digital web-based education. This in turn prompts more countries, especially developing counties, to get wired with hi-speed infrastructures that are finally including even the most remote and previously unwired areas of these countries.

New times and dates for Edulabs Webinar Series

The new Webinar times and dates will be announced via our website and a formal press release during the week of February 20th, 2012. Stillpoint Aromatics offers Aromatherapy Workshop Series “The Power of One Drop”

Joy Musacchio and Cynthia Brownley, owners of Stillpoint Aromatics, have launched a series of Aromatherapy workshops that teach proper and safe usage of pure therapeutic essential oils. In addition, the workshops are NCBTMB approved for 19 CEUs each.

Stillpoint Aromatics offers comprehensive Aromatherapy workshops that teach how essential oils are used to maintain physical and energetic health, treat chronic and acute pain, and reduce stress. Participants gain a deeper understanding of Aromatherapy and become proficient in various uses and applications of pure essential oils. These workshops use a hands-on approach where students create and take home customized aromatherapy products valued at over $200.00.

Asked why these courses were created, Brownley responds, “There is just so much mis-information regarding the safe and proper use of essential oils. We have over 22 years experience with the oils, are Certified Clinical Aromatherapists, and have extensive Aromatherapy training in the “French” medicinal technique, as well as the“English” blending method of using essential oils. We are passionate about this powerful alternative approach to health and living life in balance on all levels.”

Joy Musacchio states, “We both have our Masters degrees in Education, so teaching our Aromatherapy courses is a natural progression for us. We love teaching, and our teaching is inspired by the plants, trees, the farmers and distillers. We are continually learning and enjoy sharing our knowledge. Our workshops focus not only on the chemistry and therapeutic properties of essential oils, but also the energetic and vibrational aspect of the oils.

Each of the workshops will focus in-depth on the therapeutic and energetic uses of 25 different oils. The essential oils chosen are specific to the time of the year and the season’s energy. Students can take one, two, three or all four of the workshops. There are no prerequisites and the workshops can be taken in any order. If a student has already attended one of the four, the cost of the remaining workshops is $325.

The next workshop in the series is January 20-22, 2012. With the long awaited arrival of 2012, this workshop will focus on essential oils for “new beginnings” and bringing in the new energy of 2012. Participants will learn how to integrate pure essential oils into their life – to work with the new energies for physical, emotional and spiritual well being.

Dore Frances, Ph.D. Celebrates A Decade Of Helping Families in Crisis With Troubled Teens at Horizon Family Solutions

In 2001 Dore Frances created Horizon Family Solutions, LLC (H.F.S.) with the intention to assist and educate parents during a time of crisis with their teenager. This year Horizon Family Solutions is celebrating over a decade of assisting families.

During these ten years, Dore Frances has been asked for her opinion by Seventeen Magazine and interviewed by The Monterey Herald in California.

She also spoke at the Boise High school in Idaho about the dangers of drugs and answered some very tough questions from both parents and teens.

Not seeking publicity Dore Frances has shared information with attorneys, counselors, doctors, families, health care providers, and other professionals through her two newsletters and the most recent addition of RMG Teen Alerts. She also has several e-Book publications in process that will assist families in crisis who are needing to make a placement decision and are not able to travel ahead of time.

Recently Dore Frances was accepted into the American Evaluation Association (A.E.A.) and will be conducting in-depth evaluations of programs and schools that are assisting families in raising today’s teens. Frances knows personally the anguish parent’s experience when their home is being invaded by an out of control teen, who themselves is in crisis.

She too choose to place her own daughter in a residential therapeutic treatment center over 10 year ago. Neither she nor her daughter have any regrets.

Since that time Dore Frances has learned a lot about the benefits and concerns of programs and schools that have invaded the Internet. It is always painful when needing to make a decision about placing your child in the care of others, usually far from home. You want a quick fix, and have your child reunited with you as soon as possible. However, it does take time. The crisis did not happen overnight and you will not come back from it overnight.

Dore Frances knows first hand that there are excellent addiction treatment centers, clinical programs, eating disorder programs, learning disability schools, residential treatment centers and wilderness programs all across the United States.

She has visited hundreds of programs and schools in Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho and many other states. It is more important than ever that these programs and schools do the very best they can in the areas they specialize in and that parents, as well as programs, remember that one size does not fit all.

ICMA Centre To Partner CISI And FINRA On Diploma In Investment Compliance

The CISI is the largest and most widely respected professional body for those who work in the securities and investment industry in the UK and abroad. It has developed a suite of well recognised and supported programmes centered around product knowledge and regulation to support practitioners in the financial services industry.

ICMA Centre Announced As Top European School In Financial Trading Competition

The ICMA Centre has proved that it is one of the top finance schools in the world, coming joint 4th out of a field of 44 international schools in the 2010 Rotman International Trading Competition held at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. This result is in line with the ICMA Centre’s track record of finishing in the top 10, and usually top 5, in all previous Rotman competitions.

ICMA Centre Announced As Top European School In Financial Trading Competition

The team of four traders – Ioannis Oikonomou, Dimitris Korovilas, Aditya Pandit and Juan Cepeda Murcia – beat a veritable who’s who of corporate finance schools to take joint fourth place. Top place went to MIT while the closest European university was Luiss University which came 30th, and the next UK school was CASS Business School which was ranked in 33rd place.

The competition involved a series of different assessed cases that required trading either in an electronic environment or in the trading pit. Competitors had to trade a variety of financial instruments including corporate bonds, energy futures, stocks that were simultaneously traded in different markets, and futures on a stock index.

“As recent events in world markets have shown only too clearly, skill and competence in trading and analysis are critical both to success and to survival in modern markets. This result shows that our graduates are among the best in the world and that the time and effort invested in our dealing rooms and our trading simulation software (ICTrader) was well spent – to the benefit of us and future members of the finance professions,” said Dr Michael Smith, dealing room director at the ICMA Centre.

“Making it to the top of the competition requires a very diverse set of skills. One has to be numerical enough to create the appropriate pricing models, and strategic enough to find the most efficient ways to trade,” commented Ioannis.

“Being in the trading pit during the quantitative outcry session and trading against 87 people from top schools, some of them with significant trading experience, was like being thrown into a pool of sharks,” added Dimitris.

Local Sixth Formers Give A Lesson In Money Management

A group of economics students from St Aidan’s & St John Fisher’s Associated Sixth Form in Harrogate, took up a challenge thrown down by Yorkshire-based Engage Mutual to help improve local young children’s understanding of saving on Thursday 25 February.

The sixth formers developed and delivered a morning of fun and interactive lessons around saving and money to a Year Two pupil group comprising 73 delighted six and seven year olds, from Oatlands Infant School in Harrogate.

Head at Oatlands Infant School, Elizabeth Robson, commented:

“This project has been an exciting way of giving our children an introduction to the importance of saving and working with money- both vital life skills. It has been great for them to have this delivered by the Sixth Form students in such a fun and interesting manner.”

Part of a wider initiative to improve financial capability, the sixth formers have been improving their own money knowledge, having recently completed a course in their free time run by Engage Mutual at their offices. The course concludes with a challenge for the sixth formers to take an element of what they have learned and communicate it to a younger audience in a fun and interesting way.

Engage Mutual Chief Executive, Andrew Haigh said:

“Where better to start helping families and future generations secure their financial futures, than with children? Working with schools is an incredibly valuable and informative experience for us. We always learn a great deal from the clarity and simplicity that young people can bring to communicating quite complex financial issues.”

The new web-based ICMA Centre portfolio simulation platform that has been developed by StockTrak Inc and customised by Dr George Alexandridis allows students to trade securities in most major markets around the world in real time and build and manage large portfolios.

MSc and BSc students at the ICMA Centre that take the portfolio management course are involved in an assessed group project where they have to build and evaluate a hypothetical portfolio with securities of their choice using real time data.

Dr George Alexandridis, Lecturer in Finance at the ICMA Centre said: “Our custom made portfolio simulation platform and other simulations used in the centre can really help us bridge the gap between theory and practice and progress the students’ learning experience to a higher level. Students can apply the tools they learn in the class and improve their investment skills. It is very much like real-life on-line trading platform that not only allows students to get some hands-on experience but also ignites a spirit of competition in the class room. Moreover, it helps improve students’ investment awareness and potential in securing better jobs after graduation”

The MSc Portfolio Management challenge runs between January and April by Professor Jacques Pezier. Each group of students is required to submit a detailed report where they critically explain and justify their trades and profitability compared to appropriate benchmarks. The final winners are determined based on both their final profit and reports. This allows for students to be evaluated on their critical judgment as well as their skills of practically applying what they learn from core courses such as portfolio management and derivative markets.

The ICMA Centre is one of the very few Business Schools in the UK that have adopted similar portfolio simulation platforms that are becoming an essential training tool in business, finance and executive education.

Drug Education For Children

Narconon provides free drug education for children at Monterey County Fair. In an effort to educate as many people as possible about the harmful effects of drugs, Narconon Northern California strives to have a presence in community settings where people congregate. Last week Narconon Vista Bay had a booth at the Monterey County Fair, which is one of the largest in the state. This provided the team an opportunity to share information and to mingle with members of the community.

The Narconon booth included a prize wheel and gifts. During the extent of the fair over 4000 pieces of printed drug education material was placed in the hands of children. Parents and other members of the community expressed appreciation of the positive and proactive approach that Narconon provides in drug education and prevention.

Drug abuse has been a cause of concern for parents and the nation for generations. Rather than simply focusing on ‘just saying no’, Narconon drug education focuses on realistic aspects of drug use and abuse. The real facts are presented without the use of scare tactics. When kids have the entire picture of what drugs can do to their life they are more likely to make the right decision. Humor is a huge part of the program for kids’ presentations and trainings.

These training programs are in place in schools across the country as they assist in meeting several criteria for the US Department of Education, Title IV, (Safe & Drug Free School) funds. In order to keep the presentations and training materials up to date and current, trends of youth substance abuse are tracked and monitored and modifications are made as needed. Being proactive results in prevention of drug use, which is the true goal of drug education.

The Narconon Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment, which has more than a 70% success rate, is a drug-free method for rehabilitation. The program actually consists of two stages or components: detoxification and rehabilitation itself.

“Narconon Drug Rehab” has successfully graduated thousands of individuals that have gone on to live stable, productive, and drug-free lives. “Narconon Prescription Drug Treatment” focuses on eliminating drug abuse through drug education, information and rehabilitation. Preventative efforts focus on proactive presentations and training materials provided by professionals in a realistic way.
