FindAMasters Praises Inventive Fundraising Scheme

FindAMasters wants to spread the word about a Manchester man in his bid to raise money for a Masters degree in Business Administration.

Scott Clay needs £23,000 in order to complete the degree, which would improve his CV and is related to his career. Scott, who is from Didsbury, originally went to his employers to ask for funding but was turned down. He currently only has £5,000 to go towards the Masters degree, but has come up with an inventive fundraising plan to get the money he needs.

Scott says he plans to ask people to donate £200 to his degree fund in return for a full eight hours’ worth of volunteer work at their chosen charity.

Concerning the donation price, Scott said: “I worked out what the price of the course was, how much I could put in myself, made a realistic analysis of how much time I could devote to this – I work full time and am also a part-time lecturer – and I came to that figure.”

He also said that he is prepared to work in any kind of environment and for any charity, with the only exceptions being for jobs that he cannot complete due to health and safety or insurance restrictions.

He said: “I’m happy to stack shelves in Oxfam for a day or go along to an event or work for one of their call centres; I’m not precious about it.”

Scott will need to complete a total of 720 hours of volunteering in order to collect enough money for the degree and, following his fundraising; he hopes to set up a scheme that puts his charity idea into practice for other prospective students.

Andy Pritchard of FindAMasters said: “We at FindAMasters hope that Scott’s bid to raise enough money for a Business Administration degree and would encourage others to follow his lead.”

“In the current economic climate it is becoming increasingly difficult to fund higher education courses and degrees, but people should not let this put them off from achieving their goals. There are many alternative routes available, and this is just one of them.”

Full Speed Ahead for Postgraduate Employment

According to a new study, Rising Wage Inequality and Postgraduate Education compiled by economist lecturers and researchers Joanne Lindley of The University of Surrey, and Stephen Machin of University College London, there are some interesting distinctions to be made between first degree graduate employment and postgraduate.

Students studying postgraduate programmes have more than doubled in the UK since 1996, from 4% to 11% in 2009. There has also been a steady increase in the share of postgraduate employment in the UK, rising from 30% in 1980 to 37% in 2009. Alongside the increase in postgraduate employability there has also been a remarkable increase in the wage gap between classic graduates and postgraduates, rising from 6% in 1996 to 13% in 2009.

The possible reason for growth is due to technological change and advancement across many industries in the UK. These are industries that are more likely to be involved in R&D, innovation, computer usage and investment in computers. This is good news for postgraduates, as their technical skills such as, advanced numeracy, high levels of analysing complex problems, and specialist knowledge or understanding are increasingly required in these areas.

According to the 2010 Labour Force Survey, the top occupations for Masters graduates are: Secondary Education Teachers, Software Professionals, Marketing and Sales Managers, Management Consultants, Actuaries, Economists and Statisticians and Information and Communications Technology Managers. All these roles require the advanced skills that Masters graduates learn at University.

Finding the right Masters degree can be extremely time consuming – FindAMasters holds a comprehensive database of postgraduate programmes from across the globe, in one place including courses such as. Texas Students To Receive State-Of-The-Art Supplemental Science Learning Materials

Students from 5th through 12th grade will, this school year, have internet learning assistance to improve their science grades.

In June, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) had panels of assessors reviewing internet learning submissions from a number of companies. The subject matter review experts on these panels determined which submissions were compliant with the new science Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) statements, which include 5th through 8th grade as well as high school Biology, Chemistry, Physics and IPC. Following the reviews the Commissioner, Robert Scott, recommended a list for adoption by the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE). On July 22, 2011 the SBOE voted to adopt a number of submissions. From the adopted list, schools can elect to purchase access to the software that they feel will suit their students best.

For students, these interactive learning programs will include; virtual experiments, animated simulations and instantly marked assessments, all designed to motivate students to explore the world of science.

In the present economic climate it must be good news that this dynamic learning material is available to Texas students at a fraction of the cost of traditional textbooks.

One of the systems adopted has been created by Texas entrepreneur, Tim Brown.

Tim, the President of Technical Laboratory Systems, has funded a partnership between his Texas-based team and a world leading company in the design of e-learning materials, to produce learning programs for all eight grade levels that are totally compliant with the new science TEKS*.

It is Tim’s opinion that this new TEA initiative creates a real possibility that more Texas students will succeed in school science and then choose to follow careers in science, technology or engineering.

Tim says;

“As a provider of technical education equipment to Texas schools and colleges for more than thirty years, I have been saddened to see the decline in the number of quality students opting for careers in technology and engineering. Middle and High School science is the bedrock for college studies in science, technology and engineering. Science teachers, who do their utmost to motivate students, will find that difficult task so much easier with this software. It was a logical step for me to invest in new technology to improve the prospects of our young students. Here in Texas we have world leading companies in all the technological areas, if we cannot provide them with the skilled and innovative workforce that they require, they will be forced to go elsewhere.”

Academics have lobbied hard for our policymakers to address the state’s declining SAT scores and maybe their message is being heard. Perhaps this new initiative by the TEA will go some way to ease the concerns of many in Texas, that the present financial constraints will damage the prospects for our schoolchildren.

Surge of Interest in Dissertation Editing and Proofreading

Over the summer there has been a surge of interest in the dissertation proofreading and editing services offered by the academic editing service proofreading.co.uk. Operations Director Rory O’Farrell reports record numbers of final-year undergraduates, Master’s and PhD students bringing their theses and dissertations to the company. “We have the best-qualified editors in the business,” stated O’Farrell, “and the word gets round. Top quality students want a PhD-qualified editor to look after their work and bring it up to the best it can be, and we can offer that service. These students use our proof reading and editing service, they’re happy with the high standard of work they receive, and naturally they tell their friends. We’re getting a massive amount of business now from word-of-mouth recommendations.”

The company, based in central London, finds that a large proportion of its academic work is done for clients who have English as a second language. In many cases, these students have been advised by their supervisors to have their dissertation proofread or edited to iron out remaining language problems so that the quality of the actual research can shine through, and that has brought them to proofreading.co.uk.

There’s also a demand for dissertation proofreading and editing from students who have English as their first language but are dyslexic, and again the University will often recommend that the students have their proofreading professionally done by a well-qualified editor.

“And of course, there are many, many people out there who just want another pair of eyes!” says O’Farrell. “When you’ve been working on a thesis or a dissertation for a long time, you simply don’t see the typos and grammar mistakes because you’re too close to the work. Your brain plays tricks on you and reads what should be there. Our editors completely understand that, and our dissertation proofreading is meticulously done to ensure that all those little errors are picked up and corrected. Nobody takes as much care with dissertation proofreading and language editing as we do, and that’s why clients come back to us time and time again.”

How School Prepares You for Success

Many intelligent and well-educated women make the mistake of assuming that they are not prepared for success. They think they do not how to succeed because they do not realize how school prepares you for success.

If you have successfully completed your high school and college education you are well prepared for success. It is not just the knowledge that school gives, it also gives you valuable experience.

The most important thing we learn in school is hard work. The most successful students in school are often not the brightest girls but the hardest working. In many cases average people who work and study hard are the best students. The same thing occurs in real life, the most successful women in many offices are those who work hard not the smartest or most capable professionals.

Another lesson you can learn from school is dedication. Persons who dedicate themselves to class work and study often succeed even if they have hard time understanding the lessons. Women who dedicate themselves to their professions and work and study hard will often succeed even if they lack knowledge.

School also teaches you how to find the knowledge that you need. The study skills you learned in school can help you in the office. In school you learned how to find knowledge and apply it to your studies. In the office you can find knowledge and apply it to your job. The most successful professionals in today’s world are often not the smartest but the best informed. Anybody who studies can be well informed about almost any subject.

The final way how school prepares you for success is through socialization and networking. The most successful students are those who are most involved in the school community – the people who participate in the clubs and the sports. The most successful professionals in the real world are those who participate in their communities and professions.

Persons who are willing to network are more likely to succeed. That means you need to be involved just as you were when you were in school. There are many organizations such as the National Association of Professional Women or NAPW that can provide you with networking opportunities. Getting out and getting involved will lead to friendships and contacts that can advance your career.

Those who can remember how school prepares you for success are prepared to succeed in the professional world. Those who do not will fail and spend their days feeling sorry for themselves.

Education Loan Source Expands TuitionFlex Financing Program for San Francisco School of Massage

Education Loan Source, Inc. (ELS), the nation’s leader in education financing administration and services, is proud to announce the expansion of their partnership with San Francisco School of Massage (SFSM). SFSM originally launched the TuitionFlexSM program in March, 2010 and the school is now expanding the program to include a choice of longer payment plan terms.

TuitionFlexSM provides students with the option to extend tuition payments over a specified period of time instead of paying cash up-front for an academic program. “With new state regulations slated to take effect at the end of this year, increasing the number of required course hours in the fields of massage and bodywork, SFSM wants to be in position to assist students with affordability,” said Gary Witt, Chief Executive Officer of SFSM. “Expanding the TuitionFlex program furthers SFSM’s commitment to make education accessible to students who are already managing a variety of personal and professional responsibilities.”

As program administrator, ELS offers comprehensive support for the program and, as a result, the program requires very little involvement from school officials. From the point of online application all the way through servicing, ELS provides a seamless flow for both students and school. ELS programs are in compliance with federal and state Truth-in-Lending disclosures and are of particular assistance to schools looking to meet 90/10 regulations.

“We are excited about expanding our partnership with ELS,” said Rocky Hall, Director of Operations. “We appreciate the expertise that ELS has earned in the educational finance arena and have benefited by their commitment to enhance TuitionFlex and bring innovation to the space.”

“Given the dynamic nature of the higher education industry, it is a pleasure to deliver financing solutions that can be easily tailored as requirements change,” said Jacklyn Garcia-Schneider, Director, Client Services for ELS. “Knowing that the expanded program will enable more students to get their education at SFSM – one of the most respected massage and bodywork schools in the nation – is especially rewarding .”

Education Loan Source Launches TuitionFlexPLUS Financing Program for International Education Corporation

Education Loan Source, Inc. (ELS), the nation’s leader in education financing administration and services, is proud to announce the launch of the TuitionFlexPLUSSM financing program at International Education Corporation (IEC) campuses nationwide.

“TuitionFlex PLUS is a win-win for both students and school,” explains Ena Hull, Vice President of Financial Planning. “Students have the ability to make affordable monthly paymen ts, while the school yields the benefits of an innovative note selling program that generates a more immediate cash flow. Through TuitionFlexPLUS, we now strike the perfect balance between offering an affordable plan to students while realizing improved cash flow for the school.”

“IEC is excited to launch a finance program that offers an online application process, high touch servicing and ultimately, a high collectability track record. These were all key factors in our decision to select ELS,” Ena continued. “As an additional benefit, the program will help with our 90/10 compliance.” As program administrator, ELS ensures that participating schools remain in compliance with federal and state Truth-in-Lending disclosure requirements. In addition, each program is customized to follow a school’s preferred internal process.

Payment plans allow a student the option to make payments over a specified term rather than paying cash up front for an academic program. Traditional payment plans require the school to hold the note on their books, while receiving funds as the student makes payments. The challenge with these plans is balancing the need to keep costs low for student enrollment with the need to infuse operating capital into the school. With TuitionFlexPLUS, schools establish unique rates and terms and can elect to implement a credit check to mitigate risk. As an additional option, they can sell a portion of their portfolio.

According to Dennis Christich, VP Sales for ELS, “ TuitionFlexPLUS allows IEC to focus on helping students become successful within the allied health, business, technology and automotive industries, while ELS supports both students and school staff with financing. The drive to excel is evident in all that IEC does and launching this financing option for students is yet another sign of that commitment being put into action.”

Following the news that more than half of all graduates are either out of work or stuck in menial jobs some six months after leaving university, Guardian Jobs are today stressing the importance in preparing a good CV to give you the best chance of success in the jobs market.

A study by the Centre for Economics and Business Research found that 52% of last year’s university-leavers, that’s 15,655, were unemployed or under-employed six months after graduating.

20%, that’s 59,000 graduates, had no job this year, the highest amount in a decade and double when the recession began in 2008. Worse still, it’s estimated that some 55% of 2011 graduates will be unemployed or under-employed six months after leaving university.

A spokesperson for Guardian Jobs said today “These findings and predictions by the CEBR do make for rather grim reading. It really highlights the importance graduates must make in making themselves appear employable on their CV, which is after all, the first form of contact employers will have.”

To help graduates get the right job, Guardian Jobs have partnered up with The Fuller CV to offer a free CV checking service that promotes the message ‘just say no to bad CV advice’ and highlights the importance of getting your CV checked over by an expert.

Education Loan Source Launches TuitionFlex Financing Program for Bellus Academy

Education Loan Source, Inc. (ELS), the nation’s leader in education financing administration and services, is proud to announce the launch of the TuitionFlex SM financing program at four (4) Bellus Academy campuses located in the states of California and Kansas.

TuitionFlex SM provides students with the option to extend tuition payments over a specified period of time instead of paying cash up-front for an academic program. “We are pleased to offer flexible payment options as it allows students to get started on the education they need to enter a new career sooner,” said Lynelle Lynch, President of Bellus Academy. “With funding options being extremely limited in today’s environment, the opportunity to stretch payments over time makes a big difference for our students.”

With all aspects of TuitionFlex SM handled by ELS, the program requires very little time from school officials. Victoria Russ, Director of Financial Aid of Bellus Academy, commented, “After administering an in-house payment plan for many years, we appreciate the fact that all program administration is handled by ELS. This frees us up to spend more time working directly with students. We also appreciate the fact that TuitionFlex SM keeps us in compliance with federal and state Truth-in-Lending disclosures.”

While other companies provide partial support for payment plans, as program administrator, ELS offers total support from the point of application through servicing. TuitionFlex SM offers a branded online application process, electronic signature, customizable reporting, automated payment processing, and flexible servicing repayment terms. ELS’ program is of particular assistance to schools concerned with 90/10 compliance.

“Bellus Academy is one of the only academies in the nation that provides premium financing programs to launch a successful career in the beauty and wellness industry,” said Jacklyn Garcia-Schneider, Director, Client Services for ELS. “Now that they’ve partnered with ELS to offer more financing options, it is gratifying to know that more students will be able to consider enrollment.”
