Code A Wish Corp Hosts “AI 101” Summer Virtual Series for Teens amid Pandemic

Rockville, MD, 2020-Jul-30 — /EPR EDUCATION NEWS/ — “Code A Wish Corp” is a Maryland 501(c)3 non-profit that is run by teens and for teens. The club was started by six high schoolers that come from Montgomery, Howard, and Fairfax County in the Greater Washington DC area in the summer of 2019. They shared the same vision that public schools nationwide have an educational gap on teaching the latest technology such as AI, especially to those that are under privileged. The founder of the non-profit Faith Cheung, a senior from Richard Montgomery High School first started a school chapter of “Girls who Code” and realized the need for technology education is unmet by the public school curriculum. After teaching coding at local libraries and even foster homes in Taiwan, she founded the non-profit at the end of the summer of 2019. A team of six like-minded high school students swiftly was formed and the idea of running a tech conference called “the Future Summit” began. With months of extensive planning and coordination, the tech conference went live on November 16th, 2019 at the Hilton in Gaithersburg, MD. The “Future Summit” proved to be a huge success. More than 200 teens from the East Coast were in attendance to hear prominent entrepreneurs and computer scientists give cutting edge speeches on machine learning, voice technology AI and the fourth industrial revolution.

To continue the outreach to even more teens amid the pandemic in 2020, the group has kicked off a new virtual summer series called “AI 101”. The learning gap in the tech field is evident when we asked such basic questions regarding AI in our AI Virtual interactive webinars. Unfortunately, not many could actually answer. The organization aims to fill a huge gap to the school system in hope to provide much needed education to teens so that they can be better equipped with foundational knowledge in AI and other emerging technology.

On July 3rd, 2020, “Code A Wish” hosted their first summer 2020 AI 101 webinar where over a hundred students enthusiastically participated. The first webinar was also published on youtube for those that could not join the live session: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcLELI2aroo&t=1s

Since then, a weekly live session has been running and hundreds of students have signed up to join the interactive webinars. Topics so far generated interest from nearly 300 elementary and middle schoolers. The topics have also been carefully chosen to reflect the latest affairs. For example, the second episode was dedicated to the use of AI in Covid-19 research. The team is striving for reaching even more students this summer and providing an easy to follow virtual platform to engage teens. The next virtual webinar will be hosted on Friday July 31st, 2020 at 5 pm Eastern Standard Time. To register, please use the following link: cutt.ly/AI101

Second WebClip2Go video production system to be installed at TU Delft

Second WebClip2Go video production system to be installed at TU Delft

VEENENDAAL, The Netherlands, 2020-Mar-28 — /EPR Education News/ — WebClip2Go is proud to announce that it is in the process of delivering and installing a second video production system at the Delft University of Technology, just six months after delivery of their original system. This means that Delft now joins the ranks of Leuven and the Erasmus University Rotterdam as a two-unit WebClip2Go organization.

The enthusiasm with which the first system was received within the university’s audiovisual department provided clear motivation and justification for the purchase of a second system, which will be installed at its Aerospace Engineering faculty.

“Quite simply, teachers have found the WebClip2Go system very beneficial for their teaching load”, said Michel Beerens, Head of the NewMedia Centre at the Delft University of Technology. “Teachers like the system because it’s incredibly easy for them to use, the production values are exceptionally high, and it delivers a teaching resource that can be used again and again – making for more efficient content delivery.”

The WebClip2Go system is a completely unique approach to the production of presenter-based video content – turning conventional approaches to editing and filming on their head, and allowing non-professional users to create professional-level content.

Essentially, the workflow process associated with traditional production is reversed. An easy-to-use system allows for the creation of professional-level ‘templates’ – including all the transitions, animations, titles, colour grading, sound FX, and animated elements that you would expect.

e-learning startup Class 101 opens new platform dedicated specifically to international learners

SEOUL, Korea, 2020-Mar-16 — /EPR Education News/ — “Do you love what you do?”

This is one of the most-asked questions of our time. For many, the easy answer is to tell someone to take their hobby and turn it into their profession. But this is easier said than done.

E-learning platform, Class 101, is working to achieve its mission of “Living What You Love” by offering immersive online video classes across a variety of hobby categories including illustration, digital drawing, music production, crafts and more. Each course is carefully created by a top-trending artist or influencer in their field with a growing community of 10,000+ creators teaching classes that consistently maintain a 98.5% satisfaction rate.

This Seoul, South Korea-based start-up recently announced its global launch for English and Japanese-speaking learners after weeks of testing the global demand for a more comprehensive form of online learning. Starting from February 2020, they opened a new platform dedicated specifically to international learners with an initial 12 classes in three categories that include illustration, digital drawing and music with many more classes to come. In a short amount of time, the total number of students enrolled in the US alone exceeded 1,500.

Some of the most popular courses are instructed by influential artists including Korean hip hop singer Gray and Groovyroom. These music producing and beat-making classes have been especially popular amongst K-pop fans across the globe. An art class taught by ZIPCY was also popular amongst students who wanted to learn realistic and sophisticated drawing styles from an instafamous Korean Illustrator.

“We decided to announce the official launch of the global platform today as the number of enrollees has been steadily rising. People seem to enjoy our extensive and comprehensive class content, which on average lasts around 11 hours. We find that our unique way satisfies basic to intermediate level learners who want to master skills and techniques in a new hobby” said Minjeong Yun, global team lead at Class 101.

One of the things learners have been especially responsive to is the “Class Kit,” which is a package containing all the materials necessary for participants to complete a course, which is delivered right to their doorstep. This allows learners to have immediate and far easier access to learning without the hassle of having to shop for materials or equipment. If you enroll in a pole dancing class, for example, you will receive a pole in the mail. If you enroll in an illustration class, you will receive all the watercolors, drawing pads, brushes, and materials you need.

Another unique aspect of the service is that it has an online feedback community where instructors and learners exchange feedback on the process and progress they make. Learners are able to ask questions they have during lessons, exchange opinions, and help keep one another motivated.

“Compared to existing players in the online education market like MasterClass and Skillshare, Class 101 is unique in that it offers an All-in-One class package. That is, everything needed to learn a new hobby or skill delivered right to your door,” said Yun, adding that “Class 101 dives much deeper into any given topic than sites people are probably used to and learners can go back and replay their course videos to review for up to 20 weeks after purchasing the course.”

Established in March 2018, Class 101 is led by a group of university students from the Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). It attracted a 12 billion KRW (US $10.5 million) investment from Softbank Ventures, Mirae Asset Venture Investment, KT Investment, Spring Camp and Strong Ventures in 2019.

From paper textbooks to electronic scripts of lessons: the rapid path of Russian education to high technologies

MOSCOW, Russia, 2019-May-24 — /EPR  EDUCATION NEWS/ —  Any changes take time, and education reform all the more. This is a long and painstaking process with a lot of pitfalls. We are telling how the Moscow Department of Education managed to transform the educational system beyond recognition in a few years, turning it into one of the exemplary world models.

Just a few years ago, the backpack of an ordinary Russian school student was not easy to pick up — textbooks and additional materials in all subjects, exercise books, writing materials, and sports uniforms and shoes. Parents of pupils even in elementary school were perplexed how their children carry it to school every day.

Today the backpack of the Moscow school student has become twice as light. The fact is that now it’s not necessary for children to carry all paper textbooks with them. It is enough to have a tablet with you: all the training materials necessary for the lessons are digitized, stored in the cloud storage of the Moscow Electronic School and are always ready for use. The same is true of additional literature, works of art, and even tests: instead of leaflets or notebooks “for controls,” there are interactive tests on a tablet or in a laptop. In the same tablet or even on the phone, students can always see the lesson schedule, find out about new grades, or even do their homework.

But the most important thing that greatly facilitates the work of teachers is ready-made electronic scripts for lessons in all subjects. Work on creating a database of such multimedia scenarios has been going on for several years, since the launch of the MES program – the Moscow Electronic School. To date, the arsenal of Moscow teachers has more than 33,000 approved scenarios developed by professionals. These scenarios are in the electronic library of educational materials, and every Moscow teacher has access to it. Any teacher registered in the system can use these materials absolutely free of charge – it makes preparing for a lesson easier and more convenient. In this library you can find hundreds more textbooks prepared by other teachers, tens of thousands of comprehensive educational applications and even prototype laboratories on a number of subjects. So far, there are no analogues to such a resource anywhere in the world.

The work of Moscow teachers has also become much easier. First, all school teachers are provided with laptops or desktops. Each class has an interactive whiteboard and there are printers – if one of the students doesn’t have a tablet or laptop with him, all materials necessary for the lesson can be printed at any time.

Options such as an electronic diary and an electronic journal allow teachers to design a curriculum using various curricula, as well as create a class schedule, create their own author assignments, or use ready-made tests from an electronic library.

In general, thanks to the emergence of the Moscow e-school, parents, students and teachers received a unique system for all participants of the educational process. It is now convenient for teachers to communicate directly with parents of students through an electronic diary, so even parent meetings are now much faster and more fruitful. Parents from any device can always familiarize themselves with the success of the children, check what is set and warn the teacher that the child will miss classes on a given day.

School classes are another theme we want to dwell on. We have already said that all classes are equipped with interactive whiteboards – touch screen panels, which the teacher can use as traditional school blackboards, or show students selected photo and video materials, and even remotely visit the city’s museums! But this is not limited to this. Now classes of Moscow schools are becoming high-tech centers, workshops and laboratories. The project of introducing specialized and preprofessional classes has been implemented in the capital of Russia since 2015. Now students in Moscow schools can study in medical, engineering, natural science classes, fully immersed in the atmosphere of the profession already in grades 8-9.

All that we have listed – only the most impressive facts. In fact, the process is much broader and more interesting. The global goal of this Russian educational reform is to create a modern digital educational environment capable of quickly adapting to the ever-changing realities of life, ready for the emergence of new professions and specialties. You can learn more about the Moscow education reform at Bett Educar in Brazil. Virtual excursions in Moscow specialized classes and master classes devoted to the Moscow Electronic School project are waiting for visitors.

International Moscow Forum “City of Education” is one of the most significant events in the world of metropolitan education. The main objective of the forum is the exchange of experience in the development of various stages of the educational process, as well as the opportunity to demonstrate the latest educational technologies, resources and equipment. With all the latest innovations and advanced educational technologies will be available at the next forum “City of Education”, which will be held in Moscow from August 29 to September 1, 2019.

A New Podcast Creation Tool Launches Called Soundtrap for Storytellers

Stockholm, Sweden, 2019-May-16 — /EPR  EDUCATION NEWS/ — Soundtrap, a Spotify company, announced that an education version of its new Soundtrap for Storytellers podcast creation tool will be available to teachers and students for use in the classroom.  It will be equipped with a wide range of intuitive features, allowing podcasters to focus on the art of storytelling by significantly reducing the time and investment typically needed to make podcasts sound professional.  It can be accessed via desktop, and a select set of recording and editing features are available on iOS and Android. Tools available include:

  • Interactive Transcripts/Editing Studio: Soundtrap for Storytellers saves hours of time by enabling users to transcribe and edit the spoken-word audio file as you would in a text document, eliminating the need to listen to the podcast over and over again.  Automatic transcripts, at the click of a button, will differentiate instruction for all ages, abilities and individualized education plans.  This tool allows learners to see their spoken word, easily edit the  text and tell the story of their learning.
  • Communication and Collaboration: While this education version is compliant with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)  there is the ability for older  learners, outside the COPPA environment, to invite family and friends to remotely join a podcast without requiring the invitees to sign up for Soundtrap. They can also upload a podcast and English transcript directly to Spotify.
  • Creativity: Soundtrap for Education schools now have access to Soundtrap for Storytellers  added features which let students tell their story, create their personal jingles and complete the audio production process using Soundtrap’s built-in instruments and loops. Students will have access to 1,100+ classroom-appropriate sounds from freesound.org that could be used to punctuate their story and adds atmospheric sound to the podcast project.

According to Per Emanuelsson, CEO of Soundtrap, “This educational tool helps teachers differentiate instruction for students of all abilities within one classroom, giving students a compelling way to channel their thoughts and perspectives. While students will be utterly engaged, teachers get an inspiring vehicle for meeting core curriculum requirements.”

Soundtrap for Storytellers was built around solving some of the biggest pain points for podcasters — editing, transcribing, remote interviewing and adding sound effects — and providing one, streamlined platform that contains every part of the podcast creation process.  Equipped with a wide range of intuitive features, the education version of Soundtrap for Storytellers allows students to focus on the art of storytelling by significantly reducing the time and investment typically needed to make podcasts sound professional.

Learning management and collaboration platform for educators and trainers LiberCloud announces integration with Microsoft Office Online

SAN FRANCISCO, 12-Jul-2016 — /EPR EDUCATION NEWS/ — LiberCloud, the cloud-based learning management system for instructors, trainers and educators, announces integration with Microsoft Office Online to better enable Microsoft PowerPoint slideshows as a delivery method for blended learning materials and to give the ability to incorporate existing PowerPoint content in new ways. Microsoft Corp. is making this possible with their Cloud Storage Partner Program, which enables cloud solution partners, such as LiberCloud, to create seamless integration with Office Online.

What’s New

LiberCloud’s existing learning content management solutions combine the best of instructor-led engagement, blended learning, and interactivity between instructors and students. This new release makes its platform even more flexible via seamless integration with PowerPoint Online so that users can create and store PowerPoint content directly within their existing LiberCloud authoring tools.

“We are very excited about LiberCloud’s integration with PowerPoint Online”, said Felice Curcelli, LiberCloud’s Co-founder & CEO. “It makes perfect sense because of the amount of content that teachers and trainers have already developed using either PowerPoint or PowerPoint look-alikes. It’s another step in our mission to make trainers and teachers more effective and students more engaged.”

How It Works

A slideshow in LiberCloud is a collection of learning assets that an author can combine in a slideshow for use in coursework and training classes. It helps instructors go beyond traditional slide decks and get more creative by incorporating other assets such as canvas slides, interactive tutorials, videos, assessments and polls.

An author typically embeds the slideshow in a LiberPage which is the building block within the platform for lesson plans, coursework and assignments.

Benefits

‘Blended Learning’ techniques are the trend for educators whether in school systems or corporate training environments, and LiberCloud’s enhancements are built to meet this demand. LiberCloud Slideshows with PowerPoint is an example of blended learning enablement and gives teachers and instructors flexibility to:

1. Share and reuse individual slides with ease. For example, if instructors want to incorporate PowerPoint charts or diagrams they’ve created in various lesson plans, they can add those native PowerPoint slides to new learning or instructional content. LiberCloud makes it easy to find individual slides and reuse them without duplicating content.

2. Brainstorm ideas with canvas-based slides via LiberCanvas, an app that lets users write and draw on a shared canvas as well as record content that can then be shared as videos. For example, instructors can give an individual or group assignment with a slideshow containing read-only background information along with canvas slides that they can write on and collaborate in real-time.

3. Engage students by combining PowerPoint slide decks with polls and assessments, to deliver during a slideshow and capture the results in real-time.

4. Make communication and feedback more personal and more effective by creating audio-visual annotations on individual slides.

“The integration of LiberCloud with PowerPoint Online creates new opportunities for teaching and learning for our joint users”, said Rob Howard, Director of Ecosystem, Microsoft. “Teachers will be able to leverage the native real-time co-authoring capabilities of PowerPoint Online and LiberCloud’s canvas-based collaboration and polls to increase student engagement.”

Integration with PowerPoint Online is a continuation of LiberCloud’s mission to give educators control and flexibility to deliver instruction material and assessments in a coherent and cohesive fashion. Visit their website for more information or to download the white paper Using LiberCloud Slideshows with PowerPoint in Instruction Materials.

AMCM is Changing How Students are Fundraising

Oklahoma City, OK, June 26, 2015 — /EPR EDUCATION NEWS/ — Association Motor Club Marketing (AMCM) just announced they will launch their new mobile application, AMCM Presentation, during the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA-PBL) National Leadership Conference in Chicago June 25- July 1, 2015. The app was designed specifically for Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) participating in the AMCM Fundraising Program.

AMCM is one of the only organizations at the FBLA Conference giving students the opportunity to learn technologically advanced business skills by fundraising through their smartphones and tablets. It is also one of the only fundraising options providing students with recurring revenue, another learning opportunity for students.

AMCM partnered with Victory Info Services to utilize Victory’s 360’s mobile platform. This provides students with the necessary tools on their phones to successfully present and complete the sale of AMCM’s roadside assistance and travel discount programs. These tools include a sales presentation and video, plus a communication feature allowing chapter Advisors to connect with their members. Other features of the app include the fundraising FAQs, a gas price finder, weather, roadside assistance demo, and support.

Regarding the inspiration behind the new app, Mark Muncey, Director of Fundraising, explained, “Traditional fundraising efforts have been made with sales of food and candy. Chapter Advisors were frustrated with those options which are labor-intensive as they demand collection and storage of inventory, extensive bookkeeping, and delivery of the product.”

“Our platform is designed to make the fundraising process easier on both students and Advisors,” he pointed out. “The ability for students to participate by using their smartphones to generate a recurring revenue stream is a real homerun for any chapter. We are excited to introduce this program at the FBLA Conference in Chicago.”

“Victory is honored to be working with AMCM, an organization that not only takes a part in helping students build important business skills, but also fundraises for good causes,” stated Mark Burns, Vice President Business Development and General Manager of Victory Info Services. “Because technology will continue to revolutionize how the world does business, it’s more important than ever to equip students with the necessary skills to succeed.”

For information on Association Motor Club Marketing and the new AMCM app, visit www.amcm-online.com or email mamuncey@amcm-online.com. Comedy As A Catalyst For Science Education

The Emmy Award Winning Team at Page Turner Adventures is moving full STEAM ahead with a three-part project (videos, live shows, and web portal) that uses comedy to get kids excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.

Founded by Riley Roam and Kenny Mikey, Page Turner Adventures has always used the double whammy of comedy and story to educate and entertain. Their videos, live touring shows, and workshops have been inspiring kids across the country for over a decade. Now they’re turning their attention to STEAM with a Transmedia Storytelling project called THE STEAM TRUNK CIRCUS. It’s the story of a mysterious circus performer who incorporates the work of Edison, Einstein, Curie, and Picasso, into his act.

A project that combines juggling, unicycling, and comedy with science is sure to be fun. But to ensure that the program is also effective, the team enlisted the help of Georgette Yakman, founding researcher for STEAM and 2009 NCTC STEM Educator of the Year.

The STEAM Trunk Circus will be told through short videos that schools can also air on their morning announcements, a live multi-media touring show, and an interactive web portal with games, experiments, crafts, and activities. Each piece of the puzzle unlocks a different element of the story world. “Comedy and transmedia storytelling are great ways to interest kids in STEAM,” says Mikey. “This project is also about encouraging creativity, thinking,” agrees Roam, “using humor plus transmedia seemed like the perfect fit.”

“We also knew we had to figure out a creative way to fund it,” adds Mikey. “We’re doing an Indiegogo campaign, so people can help us develop the project as we go. In exchange, they can get all different kinds of perks including videos, tickets, shows for their school, even a starring role in the video series!”

20 cm Long Worm In The Human Eye, First Ever Recorded On Video

Can you believe that a 20 cm worm can house itself in the human eye? But one has to believe one’s eyes.

Here is the video clip of a 20 cm long worm being removed from a human eye through surgical procedure. It is the first time ever that such a long worm growing in the eye has been recorded. The video has evoked great interest among medical students as well as the general public.

http://www.indiavideo.org/health/loa-loa-worm-removing-surgery-8857.php

Dr. Ashley Thomas Mulamoottil, the doctor who recorded this unique surgery says that this is the seventh worm that he has removed in the last one decade and it is also the longest.

The worm Loa Loa was originally found in Africa and has now reached Asia. The mangrove fly or deer fly is believed to be the carrier of this worm. The eggs of the worm enter the human body through small wounds inflicted by the fly. The death of the worm inside the body could be fatal as it could contaminate the blood. The disease is known as microfilariasis or Loa Loa infestation (Loiasis).

The video portal www.indiavideo.org and the Indian language portal www.oneindia.in are taking the video to the world. According to Mr. M.R. Hari, Executive Editor of India Video, the process recorded by Dr. Ashley fetched 2 million views on Facebook in three days and this persuaded them to make a short movie with supporting information to make it useful. Loa Loa disease could be a major health problem in future and hence an awareness campaign is the need of the hour. ‘We take up that mission now’ says

Mr. Sriram Hebbar, CEO of One India.

Training Provider Links With Lawn Specialist Company

Train Aid Ltd has formed a partnership with the London Lawn Turf Company (LLTC) in order to look out for all their Health & Safety needs. Train Aid will be running annual courses to ensure that all employees are up to date with their manual handling training. The company has always been at the forefront of safety, but has struggled to find a provider that could tailor courses around their individual business needs. Train Aid has stepped in to certify all company employees across their four depots in the South East of England.

LLTC are the largest supplier of lawn turf to the trade and retail sectors in the South East of England. They presently operate five depots, each of which houses a minimum of ten staff. The company distributes rolls of turf to a wide geographical audience using a combination of light and heavy goods vehicles. This in itself can sometimes prove dangerous and often requires complete concentration. Both first aid and manual handling skills are essential in the event of an accident.

Each depot can sometimes be required to manually lift hundreds of rolls of turf each day. For this reason manual handling training can prove hugely beneficial, and can help protect the overall health of all employees. Train Aid will be contracted to tailor its manual handling training course specifically around the needs of yard workers, who lift only one object (turf). This helps ensure that a strong practical relevance can be made between the training and the workplace, and could have a subsequent effect on the amount of injuries that are sustained.

Yards are notoriously hazardous environments, where there are a wide range of heavy, sharp and powerful objects. Standards within the industry are very high, whereby accidents rarely even occur. However the industry is still considered high risk, and things pop up time from time that requires the administration of treatment. This has resulted in Train Aid providing first aid training courses for all of the staff across the five depots. They are now all prepared and certified to step in and help in the event of an accident. A spokesman from the company summed up his feelings on the matter:

“We are generally pleased that all of our staff members are in the process of becoming fully certified in the field of Health & Safety. This has been a lengthy process, but we feel that it is more than worthwhile in the long run.

The partnership means that Train Aid will provide a series of refresher courses for all staff members at the expiration of their certificates.
